Song of the Week #12 – Friday on My Mind (The Easybeats)

Here at Heatwave & Landman world headquarters we’re pretty huge fans of the pop side of 60’s rock & roll. Let’s celebrate this Friday with a classic from Australia’s The Easybeats! Friday on My Mind, released in 1966, was the first big pop hit to come out of the Land Down Under and you may be surprised to know that without the success of The Easybeats, we may never have had AC/DC. Rhythm guitarist and songwriter George Young is the older brother of Angus and Malcom and used his experiences to help guide their early career and along with fellow Easybeat, George Vanda, produced their first 6 albums.

Song of the Week #10 – My Gal (The Lovin’ Spoonful)

Chris and I went with our friends James and Ben to see John Sebastian at The Dakota Jazz Club last Friday, so this week’s song goes out to The Lovin’ Spoonful.  Their songs were inspired by a lot of the same old blues that inspires us!  He talked heavily about Mississippi John Hurt at the show, which is one of our favorites.  When I listened to their debut album “Do You Believe in Magic” after doing a long blues listening experiment, I developed a whole new appreciation for their music.  Here’s a great track from that album.  If you like traditional music, check out their deep cuts! –Landman
